I read this years ago when I first started having panic attacks and anxiety. No one knew what it was. Drs. tried drugs that really didn't help. After praying and praying for a solution, I happened to walk through a pharmacy. My eyes fell on the book. It was a life saver. It helped me understand what was going on with me. With the help of Dr. Weekes suggestions I was able to deal with my anxiety in a much more productive way.

This really is one of the best books out there. I may be biased, being from Australia, also where Dr Weekes was from, but considering this book was written many years ago, it has all you need to know about dealing with anxiety.

I have never been very good as visualisation, so have found the whole thing of seeing myself floating past my worries quite hard. I too get awful physical symptoms and at times have been terrified that the various pains and aches are signifying something far worse than anxiety. I more or less use all of her advice rather than going through each stage, the overall effect is what is helpful.

What I found liberating through reading her books though, was the realisation that anxiety can cause a huge amount of physical discomfort, and that the more you fight these symptoms the worse they get. I now know that if I try relaxation, acknowldege that I feel bad, and stop fighting myself that gradually the symptoms disappear. If they don't - then I'm off to the doctor!

It is nice to hear from someone else who has found her helpful - she died a few years ago I think, but you are right - she was way ahead of her time.

This is the best book I have found to date on this issue. (I have read hundreds) Dr. Weekes' approach and insight were way ahead of her time.

I always have trouble with the 'floating' part because I have horrible phy. symptoms. Any advice?

Great post!
